Dear Colleagues,

The next meeting of the MSAC will be from 10 am to 4 pm on January 16, 2009 in Albuquerque at APS City Center Building, Conference Rm. 220 West (directions below).

You will need a government-issued id (e.g. driver’s license) to enter the building.

The principal items for discussion will include: (1) Advancing New Mexico Project 2012 through the upcoming legislative session; (2) Development of the accompanying "public awareness" campaign for Project 2012; (3) Ongoing work on the creation of an online database of K-12 math and science educational activities in New Mexico; (4) Beginning discussions with the State's teacher training institutes about changing the course requirements in math (for future elementary school teachers) from 6 to 9 hours; and (5) the professional development guidelines for the “Math and Science Proficiency Fund".

A tentative agenda is given below. Your input is always welcome! The meeting is officially in session from 1000 to 1600 and is open to the public at all times. Come a bit early for a coffee and some pre-meeting conversation.

0930-1000: Coffee and conversation
1000-1100: Guiding NM Project 2012 Through the 2009 legislative session (Bob Eisenstein)
1100-1115: Coffee break
1115-1145: Public awareness of math and science via KNME programming (Ed Ulman, KNME)
1145-1200: Overview of afternoon breakout group discussions (STEM web-based inventory, increased math requirements for pre-service teachers, professional development funding guidelines)

1200-1300: LUNCH (Generously provided by Sandia National Labs)

1300-1400: Working groups meet
1400-1415: Coffee break
1415-1500: Working groups report out on planned next steps and issues
1500-1515: MSB Report (Mary Jo Daniel)
1515-1530: Organizational changes to MSAC
1530-1545: New business
1545-1600: Plus-delta
1600: Adjourn
